Guinness World Records (GWR) has shed light on the disqualification of Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum for her Sing-A-Thon attempt as an individual in December 2023. The decision, according to GWR, was rooted in "guidelines around rest break timings not being met," a standard rule applied across all of their longest marathon records.
Responding to an inquiry from Ghana Business News seeking clarification on Afua Asantewaa's disqualification, a spokesperson for GWR stated that her attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful due to the failure to adhere to guidelines regarding rest break timings.
Afua Asantewaa aimed to surpass the current record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012. Despite her valiant effort, she completed the longest singing marathon as an individual at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023.
Following GWR's official publication of her disqualification, Afua expressed gratitude for the support she received on her Facebook page and hinted at announcing her next course of action in the coming days.
Despite the setback, Afua's determination and perseverance have resonated with many, solidifying her as an inspirational figure. While some hope for GWR to reconsider and declare Afua's marathon as qualified, she has proven that with dedication and resolve, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to, regardless of external validation.
